On the morning of April 8, 2011, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities in collaboration with the International Faculty (VNU), Nantes University, Angers University and Maine University (France) organized the international conference “Contributions of Social Sciences and Humanities in Socio-Economic Development” at the Ministry of National Defense Guest House.At the conference, scientists and scholars exchanged and shared new ideas and information, evaluated and highlighted the contributions of social sciences and humanities research projects to the socio-economic development in general and of Vietnam and Southeast Asian countries in particular. This is an opportunity for scientists to affirm their role and find out the strengths that need to be promoted in social sciences and humanities in order to move towards a sustainable and most humane socio-economic development model.
In his opening speech, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Khanh (Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities) affirmed that the research results of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities have helped the government formulate correct policies, laying the foundation for the sustainable development of the country. In addition, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities plays an essential role in promoting patriotism and national spirit. According to Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Khanh, in order for the University of Social Sciences and Humanities to further promote its role, it is necessary to closely link specialized research with interdisciplinary research, and general research with research on specific subjects.
As one of the leading universities in Vietnam in teaching and researching social sciences and humanities, in order to carry out its mission, in recent years, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities has attached great importance to and built an extensive network of cooperation with large and prestigious organizations and universities in the world. After the plenary session, the workshop discussed in 2 subcommittees with a total of 26 reports: Changes in awareness and society associated with socio-economic development: The role of education and training; Development models and strategies: the role of social sciences and humanities. The workshop lasted until the morning of April 9, 2011.
