The Center for Research on Development of Ethnic Minorities and Mountainous Areas (name according to the decision upon establishment: Center for Research and Consulting on Socio-Economic Development of Ethnic Minorities in Vietnam, abbreviated as the Center for Research on Ethnic Minority Development) is a coordination and association facility with a number of departments inside and outside of Vietnam National University, Hanoi to conduct applied research, consulting, and socio-economic development of ethnic minorities in Vietnam, under the University of Social Sciences and Humanities - Vietnam National University, Hanoi.English transaction name: Center “Research for Development of Mountainous Region and Ethnic Minorities” (abbreviated as RDME). [email protected] The Center is a unit operating under the regime of financial autonomy, self-accounting, legal entity status, its own seal and account; operating under the laws of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam; operating under Decree No. 35/HDBT dated January 28, 1992 of the Council of Ministers on science and technology management on the basis of the regulations of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities.
Functions and tasks
1. Scientific research: Coordinate and link a number of sectors and departments inside and outside Hanoi National University to research a number of issues in the field of economic - social - cultural development of mountainous areas and ethnic minorities in Vietnam.
2. Development consulting: Participate in consulting on economic development issues, human resource development, issues of hunger eradication and poverty reduction, improving people's knowledge, protecting public health, protecting the environment, protecting territorial border sovereignty, protecting social security and order, etc. in mountainous areas and ethnic minorities in Vietnam.
3. Social activities: Carry out activities in social fields to contribute to the sustainable development of mountainous areas and ethnic minorities in the process of industrialization and modernization of Vietnam.
4. Professional training: Preside over or coordinate the opening of short-term courses to foster knowledge on economic - social - cultural development in mountainous areas and ethnic minorities in Vietnam related to scientific research and development consulting tasks.
5. Build data sources: Building a database to provide encyclopedic information about mountainous regions and ethnic minorities in Vietnam (such as: indigenous knowledge of ethnic groups, customs, lifestyles, religions, beliefs, multicultural social environment, etc.)
Organization, personnel
The Center's apparatus includes: Director and Deputy Directors; Scientific Advisory Council; Office and professional and technical departments. The Center's Scientific Advisory Council currently consists of 09 members, including 03 Professors, 05 Associate Professors, 01 Master. The Center has more than 20 scientists, managers, and reputable and experienced experts working in related fields as collaborators.
Domestic and international cooperation
The Center is allowed to establish cooperative relationships, exchanges and transactions with research organizations, government and non-government organizations at home and abroad to seek projects, topics and funding sources as well as establish bilateral or multilateral relationships in research activities to improve the ability to coordinate scientific research, improve the level of consulting and the quality of social activities, improve the capacity of professional training to serve the research and development of the economy - society - culture of mountainous areas and ethnic minorities in Vietnam. In 2010, in addition to the task of scientific research, signing scientific cooperation agreements and co-organizing international scientific conferences with several universities in Thailand, the Center promoted activities in social fields to contribute to the sustainable development of mountainous areas and ethnic minorities in the process of industrialization and modernization of Vietnam. In these activities, the Center is focusing on gradually building the “Ethnic and Mountainous Education Development Fund” to help teachers, students, and schools in mountainous ethnic minority areas, contributing to further promoting the education cause in this special territory of Vietnam. At the same time, the Center is preparing to build a data bank to provide encyclopedic information about mountainous areas and ethnic minorities in Vietnam (such as: indigenous knowledge of ethnic groups, customs, lifestyles, religions, beliefs, multicultural social environment, etc.) to provide society, businesses, etc. with encyclopedic information about this important territory, contributing to the sustainable development of the country in the process of industrialization and modernization.
