The 20th anniversary of the Faculty of Sociology was solemnly held on the morning of November 16. Attending the ceremony were representatives of central agencies, departments, professors, scientists, officials, students of generations of the Faculty of Sociology.In 1991, on the basis of the Department of Sociology and Psychology of the Faculty of Philosophy, the Faculty of Sociology and Psychology was officially established, this is the first faculty of sociology training in the university training system of Vietnam. In 1998, the Faculty of Sociology was separated and operated as an independent faculty of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU. Over the past 20 years, the Faculty of Sociology has trained a team of high-quality Sociology specialists with all three training systems: bachelor, master and doctoral. Since 2006, the Faculty of Sociology has been permitted by the Ministry of Education and Training to train in Social Work and has had two graduating classes of Bachelor of Social Work. In the whole country, there is currently only the Faculty of Sociology that simultaneously trains two majors in Sociology and Social Work at the bachelor and master levels.
At the ceremony, Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Thi Kim Hoa - Head of the Faculty of Sociology - reviewed the outstanding achievements in the fields of the faculty's activities over the past 20 years: Regarding training, the Faculty of Sociology has trained more than 2,000 full-time students, nearly 500 graduate students and 52 doctoral students. In addition, the Faculty also trains in-service, concurrent, transfer and second degree programs. The faculty's teaching staff has edited and participated in compiling hundreds of lectures and published 30 textbooks, 105 monographs and references for training purposes. Faculty staff have also chaired and participated in many scientific topics at all levels, and cooperated in scientific research with international scientists. Over the past 20 years, the faculty has presided over 10 state-level projects, more than 20 ministerial-level projects, VNU-Hanoi-level projects, and many basic projects... Up to now, the faculty has published about 500 research articles in domestic and international journals. In the field of international cooperation since 1991, the Faculty of Sociology has cooperated with universities and research institutes in the following countries: USA, Germany, France, Russia, Sweden, Japan, Belgium... and organizations such as UNICEF, UNFPA, Ford Foundation... On behalf of the school's leadership, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Khanh - Rector - congratulated and highly appreciated the achievements of the Faculty of Sociology over the past 20 years. The Rector believes that in the coming time, promoting the achievements that have been achieved together with the spirit of initiative and creativity, the Faculty of Sociology will continue to strive to become the leading training, research and social work institution in the country, quickly reaching international standards.
In his speech, Prof. Dr. Pham Tat Dong - Vice President and General Secretary of the Vietnam Association for Promoting Education, former Head of the Faculty of Sociology - expressed his joy at the remarkable development of the Faculty and hoped that the staff and students of the Faculty of Sociology would overcome difficulties and challenges to teach well and study well. On this occasion, the Vietnam Association for the Disabled and the "Lighting up the Faith" scholarship fund organized the awarding of 15 scholarships to students of the two majors of Sociology and Social Work.
