Friday - January 26, 2018 02:12
Lunch Box Club for Enghlish No. 27 took place on January 26, 2018, with the theme: role models in study and work that you admire and want to learn from. Prof. Dr. Pham Quang Minh (Principal of the School) and Prof. Colman Patrick Rose and many young staff participated in the discussion.

From the main topic above, it led to the sharing of Lunch Box Club for English members about a content that seems not new but is always a concern of those who are passionate about the club's activities as well as want to promote the English learning movement at school. That is: how to improve the quality and quantity of participating members of Lunch Box Club for English, thereby truly creating a good English foundation for the staff to serve training and research activities? What are the current basic difficulties that hinder the improvement of English proficiency for staff? Effective ways to learn English for working people?....

Prof. Dr. Pham Quang Minh shared with young cadres about his journey of persistently learning English for many years right after he returned to Vietnam from studying abroad nearly 20 years ago. At that time, there were not many English classes for working people and the conditions for using English were not as favorable as they are now. He was a Russian teacher at a foreign language center, but at the same time, he also registered to study English at that center every night. Persistently listening and practicing every day with foreign teachers for nearly 3 years has given his ability to respond and communicate in English a solid foundation, creating a boost for further progress in the future. And the Principal's advice to young cadres is to have specific goals and be persistent, so that even in difficult times, we can still find opportunities to experience and practice English. And only daily practice can improve the ability to use English in life.

Professor Colman Patrick Rose advises that you should not limit yourself to the activities of Lunch Box Club for Enghlish because that will not be enough to improve your English skills. And if you have young children, do not hesitate to learn English with them, listen to music, watch movies or talk in English every day. This will help you learn English naturally and without fear.

Sharing about the difficulties in learning English, many members said that the biggest difficulty is self-consciousness and not being able to overcome oneself. Then, not being persistent enough with English to overcome the obstacles in the early stages.

Talking about his experience in learning English, Dr. Pham Huy Cuong (Department of Politics and Student Affairs) said: try to think in English, write in English about the problems you encounter every day in life, even though sometimes it is not easy.

Dr. Nguyen Thi Thu Huong (Department of Cooperation and Development) believes that listening to music and watching movies in English is a lively way to learn English with many real-life situations without making us feel bored.

Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Thi Phuong Thuy (Faculty of Linguistics) said that she has had the opportunity to teach Vietnamese to many foreign students and always takes advantage of every opportunity to talk to them in English. That is how she gradually improves her ability to use English at work.

To innovate the club's activities, many members suggested that in the future, extracurricular tours could be organized to visit and interact with foreign students and trainees outside the school. These activities will be planned with specific content and topics, thereby helping to create a more diverse and lively English learning environment for members of Lunch Box Club for English.
