Scientific Conference with the theme: "Future research directions" organized by the University of Social Sciences and Humanities in collaboration with Leiden University (Netherlands) and Australian National University for 3 days: March 8, 9, 10, 2012.The workshop was attended by more than 40 international scientists and more than 50 domestic scientists. The main content of the workshop was to summarize research achievements and discuss major trends in Southeast Asian studies in the 21st century. At the workshop, scientists gave presentations and discussed in depth related issues: history, culture, language, policies of countries, and relations between countries in the Southeast Asian region. At the same time, scientists also pointed out future directions for Southeast Asian research such as: research on ethnic minorities in Southeast Asia, indigenous peoples and natural resources, migrant workers and human trafficking in Southeast Asia, religion in society, etc.

Since the last decades of the last century, Southeast Asia has emerged as a dynamic region, playing an important role in the development of the world. Since its inception, Southeast Asia has been a region with its own identity and distinctive cultural values. Southeast Asian studies have achieved many successes in the past century and continue to make further progress in the first decade of the new century thanks to the dynamism of a number of research organizations and major research projects. One of these successful studies is the Australian-Netherlands Research Cooperation Organization, established in 2006 under the direction of Leiden University and the Australian National University to promote training cooperation between the two countries in the field of research in the social sciences and humanities, especially in Southeast Asian studies. During the 6 years, the program has sponsored a number of large-scale conferences focusing on various topics. In addition, the program also supports students to research and study in other countries. This conference aims to summarize the first phase of the cooperation process, and the University of Social Sciences and Humanities is the host.
