On the morning of November 12, 2011, the 55th anniversary of the Faculty of Literature, the 15th anniversary of the establishment of the Faculty of Literature and the Faculty of Linguistics was solemnly held.Attending the ceremony were delegates from research institutes, party and government agencies, delegations from universities, press and publishing agencies across the country. On the school's side, there were Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Khanh - Party Secretary, Principal of the school, along with representatives of units in the school and many teachers and students who have studied and are working at the school. At the ceremony, the leaders of the two faculties gave a speech summarizing the 55-year journey of building and developing the Faculty of Literature, as well as the achievements that the Faculty of Literature and the Faculty of Linguistics have achieved in the past 15 years. 55 years ago, on June 5, 1956, right after escaping the war, in order to train a new team of intellectuals, build and develop the country, the government decided to establish Hanoi University of Science on the basis of separation from the University of Literature. The Faculty of Literature at that time was one of the leading institutions for training human resources in social sciences and humanities in our country. Up to now, the Faculty of Literature and now the Faculty of Literature and the Faculty of Linguistics have trained tens of thousands of students, thousands of graduate students and hundreds of doctors.
The Faculty of Literature is the cradle of training and growth of many famous writers and poets. Students of the Faculty of Literature are present in all parts of the country, in many different positions, teachers, writers, journalists, editors, social, cultural and artistic activists, many of whom are holding extremely important leadership positions in the state leadership apparatus such as General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, a former student of the 8th course. Scientific research activities have also become a regular activity that effectively serves the work of compiling lectures, textbooks, improving the quality of training; at the same time, contributing to solving practical social problems, harmoniously combining basic science with applied science and achieving remarkable achievements. Many cadres and lecturers are pioneers or have become leading researchers in the field.
Regarding international relations, the Faculty of Literature and the Faculty of Linguistics have been constantly expanding from the region to the world to create favorable conditions for training staff, modernizing programs and research methods. Lecturers have come to research and teach at many universities around the world. With outstanding achievements in the above fields, the Faculty of Literature was awarded the Third Class Labor Medal by the State in 1995, the Second Class Labor Medal in 2001; the Faculty of Linguistics was awarded the Third Class Labor Medal in 2001 and the Second Class Labor Medal in 2006.
Speaking at the ceremony, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Khanh congratulated the two faculties, and believed that the Department of Literature in general, the Faculty of Literature and the Faculty of Linguistics in particular, would grow and develop. Also at the ceremony, Prof. Nguyen Kim Dinh - former student of the first course, former Head of the Faculty of Literature - and Prof. Dr. Dinh Van Duc - former Head of the Faculty of Linguistics - shared with lecturers and students of the two faculties their memories and pride when studying and teaching at the Faculty of General Literature. The ceremony took place in a joyful and cozy atmosphere, leaving many good impressions.
