At the meeting, Associate Professor, Dr. Tran Thi Minh Hoa briefly introduced the University of Social Sciences and Humanities as the leading address for research and training in Social Sciences and Humanities in Vietnam. The university offers 24 undergraduate majors, 40 master's majors and 31 doctoral majors; initially developing from basic sciences and later expanding to applied sciences. The university has signed memorandums of understanding (MOUs) with more than 300 international partners; including 4 MOUs with universities in the Czech Republic, the most recent being the MOU with Charles University, Prague in June 2016.
Vice Rector Tran Thi Minh Hoa shared that the University of Social Sciences and Humanities wishes to cooperate with universities in the Czech Republic to open Vietnamese studies and language centers in the country, as well as carry out other activities such as student and lecturer exchanges, and joint research projects. These cooperative activities will contribute to educational cooperation between Vietnam and former socialist countries and Europe in general.
In response, Mr. Václaz Klaus expressed his thanks for the warm welcome and goodwill of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities. He expressed his agreement with the idea of strengthening cooperation between the University and universities in the Czech Republic. Currently, Czech universities are increasing teaching in English, creating more conditions for international students to join. Therefore, he hopes to see more Vietnamese students coming to his country to live and study. At the same time, the Committee on Science, Education, Culture, Youth and Sports of the House of Representatives of the Czech Republic will support the extension and supplementation of the memorandums of understanding that the University of Social Sciences and Humanities has signed with partners in the Czech Republic.
It is known that, in addition to educational cooperation, together with the Embassy of the Czech Republic as well as some other Eastern European countries in Vietnam, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities has organized cultural exchange activities such as the Holocaust Memorial Ceremony on January 23, 2018, and the Photo Exhibition "Kafka - Journey to Vietnamese Readers" on April 9, 2018.
