[Green Summer Journey] We are Yen Trung

As planned, at 6:45 a.m. on July 18, the convoy moved to bring the volunteer team to Bac Ninh. Accompanying the 27 volunteers was Comrade Nguyen Van Dap - Member of the Standing Committee of the School Youth Union from the Faculty of International Studies. The 27 green shirts came from K57, K58 of the Faculty of Management Science, Faculty of International Studies and Faculty of Journalism with the team leader: Ho Thi Hong Nhung (K57 of Management Science).

The team's activities will be from July 18 to July 30. During those 12 days, the team will work with the youth at the base to carry out a number of activities: "Cleaning up the environment; organizing cultural and artistic activities for teenagers and children; visiting and giving gifts to disadvantaged people and families with meritorious services in the locality; especially, organizing a memorial incense offering ceremony at the martyrs' cemetery on the evening of July 26." Le Ninh Son (K58 International - Head of the team's professional work committee) shared.

At 8:30 a.m., the delegation arrived at Yen Trung Commune People's Committee and was warmly welcomed by representatives of the commune government and comrades from the Commune Youth Union. The two sides had a brief greeting and meeting at the commune hall to discuss the characteristics of the area and activities during the volunteer days here. After that, the volunteer delegation was led to Vong Dong village to receive accommodation and have a simple first lunch.

At 3:00 p.m., green shirts appeared on the main road leading to the village and at the communal house to carry out environmental sanitation work. The loud laughter and the rustling sound of brooms echoed throughout the neighborhood. Many people were surprised, but many children got acquainted and joined hands with the volunteers.

At 7:30 p.m. after a quick dinner, the team arrived at the communal house of Vong Dong village to have a cultural night to introduce to the villagers and attract young people and children to join in the fun. The cultural night ended at 10:00 p.m.

On the morning of July 19, the official launch day of the team was full of enthusiasm with the cool and favorable weather. Today, the team will work together to clean and clear the irrigation ditch leading to the village fields to provide water for the ongoing planting season. The students who are used to reading books in the lecture halls now volunteer to shoulder hoes and hold sickles to join in the harvest atmosphere with the locals. I also heard somewhere the sweet Quan Ho melodies echoing over the green rice fields, as if to give more motivation to the volunteer team struggling in the ditch.

“Passionate and enthusiastic” is what the volunteer team in Yen Trung is demonstrating. And that is also the identity of the students of Nhan Van in particular and Vietnamese students in general:

"Where do we need young people?

Where there is difficulty there is youth"
