Mr. Koichi Ishizuka, Chief Representative of Sumitomo Foundation (Japan) in Southeast Asia, is introducing the sponsorship program for the 2015-2016 school year.

Attending the meeting were Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Van Kim, Party Secretary, Vice Principal of the University, along with many staff, lecturers and researchers of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities interested in the program.

The Sumitomo Foundation is a non-profit support organization established on September 25, 1991 by 20 companies of the Sumitomo Group to commemorate the 300th anniversary of the Besshi Copper Mine in Shikoku, Japan. The Foundation's goal is to contribute to the improvement of human society by mobilizing public support. Currently, the Foundation's grants are awarded to projects that address or solve problems facing humanity such as culture and the environment, and to support basic scientific research and international exchanges.

For Vietnam, the fund has been active and contributed to bridging the Vietnam - Japan relationship, especially in the field of human resource training and connecting scientists of the two countries. In recent times, many professors and researchers in Vietnam have received funding from the fund to implement projects and research works. According to the fund's statistics, from 1991 to now, 115 out of 519 applications of Vietnamese scientists have received support from the fund.

At the meeting, Mr. Koichi Ishizuka provided details of the 2015-2016 funding program, registration contents, and specific deadlines for submitting applications for each category for funding applications in the field of Social Sciences and Humanities (details can be found on the fund's website at:http://www.sumitomo.or.jp/e/index.htmAccordingly, research projects that can apply for funding from the fund must focus on studies related to Japan, studies comparing Vietnam with Japan...

In his presentation, Mr. Koichi also expressed his hope that many projects of Vietnamese researchers will be able to compete with universities and research institutes around the world in receiving funding from the fund. This support promises to make a great contribution to the development of human resources in Vietnam in the future.

Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Van Kim (Party Secretary, Vice Principal of the School) is speaking at the meeting.

Speaking at the meeting, Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Van Kim (Party Secretary, Vice Rector of the University) expressed his deep gratitude to Mr. Koichi Ishizuka, Chief Representative of Sumitomo Foundation (Japan) in Southeast Asia. Associate Professor Kim emphasized that the fund's funding plays a very important role in the research activities of the University's staff and lecturers. The funding is a driving force to promote the development of research groups at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, opening up opportunities for cooperation and research exchange between the University's staff and lecturers and Japanese researchers, strongly promoting research cooperation between scientists in the Asian region.

"The Sumitomo Foundation has a relatively good level of support, and the procedures and reports are very simple because the foundation only focuses on how the researcher achieves the results, not how it is implemented," shared Dr. Pham Van Thuy, Faculty of History (who received funding from the foundation).

At the meeting, many questions from staff and lecturers were answered and discussed directly, creating a basis for staff and lecturers of the School to register for research funding with the Sumitomo Foundation.
