(CPV) - “International cooperation has achieved many important achievements in 2014. In particular, the field of education and training has affirmed itself as one of the very important bridges between Vietnam and other countries…”. That is the affirmation of Associate Professor, Dr. Pham Quang Minh - Vice Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities - Vietnam National University, Hanoi.

Along with the achievements of international cooperation in the fields of politics and economics, the cultural and social fields, including science and education, have also achieved many important successes. Through educational cooperation, Vietnam hopes to contribute to achieving the goal set by the Politburo, which is to fundamentally and comprehensively reform Vietnam's education system.
Responding to reporters of the Communist Party of Vietnam Online Newspaper about the situation of Vietnam's international cooperation in recent times and the achievements in the field of international cooperation in education and training, Associate Professor, Dr. Pham Quang Minh said that in 2014, Vietnam achieved many important achievements in the field of international cooperation, and at the same time, international cooperation was implemented comprehensively, serving Vietnam's foreign policy of multilateralization and diversification, making friends with all countries, ensuring Vietnam's basic goal of maintaining the country's independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, resolving contradictions and conflicts by peaceful means and by international law.

Associate Professor, Dr. Pham Quang Minh said that in the past year, we have sent many cadres to teach, research, and improve their qualifications in many different countries around the world, thereby training high-quality human resources... The number of students studying abroad is increasing, including 16,000 Vietnamese students in the US, making Vietnam one of the countries with the most students studying abroad in the US. The number of Vietnamese students studying in other countries has also increased sharply, such as in Australia, New Zealand, traditional countries in Europe and in the ASEAN region. As a member of the ASEAN University Network (AUN), Vietnam is strengthening cooperation with countries in the region to exchange students, guiding students to learn about the culture, history and language of other countries, aiming to build the ASEAN socio-cultural community.

In 2014, with the attention of the Party and the State, many specific programs and projects on cooperation in training high-quality human resources continued to be implemented, typically "Program 911" following the previous "Program 322", training high-quality human resources at master's and doctoral levels abroad...In addition, another bright spot in 2014, NAFOSTED Fund continued to make many contributions to the country's science, becoming a trusted and prestigious address for scientists, expanding international cooperation, signing many cooperation documents with international funds, sponsoring cooperation protocol topics with Belgium, Australia, the US...

Sharing some outstanding results in international cooperation in science and training of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities (USSH) - Vietnam National University, Hanoi in the past year and some solutions to overcome existing problems to improve the effectiveness of international cooperation activities of the University, Associate Professor, Dr. Pham Quang Minh said that international cooperation in the field of scientific research and training of the USSH in particular, and Vietnam National University, Hanoi in general in 2014, also achieved many important achievements.Up to now, the University has signed a total of 200 cooperation documents with foreign partners, including many prestigious universities in the world and the region. Through cooperation, the University attracts more funding to support research activities. In 2014, the University's staff published a total of 42 international works, double the number in 2013, of which 5 works were published in ISI and Scopus journals. In addition, the University has successfully organized 30 conferences, of which nearly 50% are prestigious international conferences, highly appreciated by society, typically two conferences held in Paris (France), the Conference "Disputes in the East Sea: Impacts and approaches to peace and cooperation"; "Research and Teaching Vietnamese in Universities", "French School of the Far East (EFEO) and Vietnamese social sciences and humanities"...

In the past year, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities has also developed, approved and issued the “Strategy for Science and Technology Development to 2015, Vision to 2020”, with the basic goal of building the University of Social Sciences and Humanities into an advanced research university, in line with the general trend of leading universities in the region and the world, including promoting the trend of internationalization of training; attracting more foreign teachers and students to the school to study, research, teach, and design more training programs in English.

On behalf of the Board of Directors of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Associate Professor, Dr. Pham Quang Minh hopes that the State will continue to have special policies for leading scientists so that they can contribute more efforts and intelligence to the process of innovation and international integration; attract more international resources, including overseas Vietnamese experts and intellectuals; train the next generation to follow in the footsteps of their predecessors... Doing so will contribute to building a sustainable development of Vietnamese education and science./.
