Thursday - February 19, 2015 03:31
365 days of the Year of the Horse have passed, the appearance of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities (USSH) - Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU) has undergone further changes. Each staff member, lecturer, and student has different thoughts about the school in the past year, but they all have the same feeling in two words: "Impression".

Impressions for the new spring

Dr. Nguyen Quang Lieu (Head of Political and Student Affairs Department): "Political and ideological education activities must be practical for students"

In 2014, the Office of Politics and Student Affairs (OAO) organized many practical and useful programs and activities for students of the whole school. Dr. Nguyen Quang Lieu could not hide his excitement when talking about the successes of the past 365 days: “The “Student Ambassador” program, the first PhD graduation ceremony held at the school, or the first Vietnamese student class graduating from the Faculty of Vietnamese Studies and Vietnamese Language… And there are so many events, so many memories that when recalled, make me feel happy and proud. Especially because those were all events held for the first time at the school. But perhaps the two weeks of films for students are the program that impressed me the most.”.

The two weeks of films that Mr. Nguyen Quang Lieu mentioned are historical film screenings commemorating60 years of Dien Bien liberation and the 70th anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam People's Army. The program is organized thanks to the coordination between the Vietnam Film Institute, the Me Tri Dormitory Management Board and the School. This is a practical program for students, especially when the movie "The smell of burning grass" was shown at the school, students, staff and lecturers of the school also had the opportunity to directly interact with the director, screenwriter and main actors. From the vivid images, students had the opportunity to understand more about the heroic historical years that generations of fathers and brothers had experienced. Also through those films, we can see again the image of a generation of students of the old University of General Sciences in the movement "Put down your pen and go to war", expressing the ideals of national independence and socialism.

It seems that programs aimed at educating patriotism and national pride are absent in the credit-based training model at major universities. However, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities has maintained and performed this task very well in a very practical way, with a different approach of integrating political and ideological education with cultural and artistic activities or event programs for young people. Only then can students be awakened to national pride and a sense of responsibility in the process of learning and training.", Dr. Nguyen Quang Lieu assessed.

In 2015, the organization of political and ideological education activities and traditional education will have more diverse innovations to meet the needs of a "difficult" group of students, Mr. Lieu affirmed: "It has to be diverse, not just showing movies or music every year. For me, how to make young people and students perceive the problem in the most practical way is the important factor.”..

Secretary of the School Youth Union - Master Tran Bach Hieu: "The New Student Festival has become a milestone"

The Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities has always been the leading flag in the youth and student movement of the Vietnam National University, Hanoi. In 2014, with the mid-term Congress, the Youth Union movement welcomed a new "leader", Master Tran Bach Hieu - lecturer of the Faculty of Political Science. In the first months of taking on the task, the new Secretary of the Youth Union of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities left his mark with the event "Freshmen Day 2014”.

Talking about the event, the eyes of the School Youth Union Secretary lit up, he expressed: “This activity has created a huge change in the way the Youth Union - Student Association of the school has been organized over the years. The festival has created a special impression on new students in particular and all other students of the school in general.”.

Freshmen Day" is a series of consecutive events from political, academic activities to entertainment activities with a youthful, dynamic student character. The event started from the launching ceremony "Students say no to domestic violence"Come to the screening and meet the crew"Living with history", the event ends with the finale"Humanities Talent” (USSH's Got Talent). Just by itself, “Green Humanity Day" was launched with more than 500 Union members and young people participating, making this series of events even more meaningful. The eyes, smiles, and beautiful memories will create great motivation, a lever to fuel the Union and Association cadres to enthusiastically create new successes in 2015.

Master Pham Van Hue (Training Department Specialist) and a "bumper harvest" year

MSc. Pham Van Hue is a former psychology student, but has been a specialist at the school's Training Department since 2008. For him, USSH is not simply a place to study, but has long been a second home.

The teacher confided: "When I was a first-year student, I was very sad because the school was mostly female. But when the teachers in the Psychology Department in particular and the teachers in the school in general cared about and guided me in doing scientific research, I found my passion, and from then on I continued to participate in all activities. Surprisingly, I was kept to work at the school, that was my great destiny with Humanities. This place is like a family, where the relationship between teachers - students, students - students, colleagues - colleagues is extremely close.”.

When asked about his impressions of 2014, Mr. Hue could not hide his happiness because last year he received many certificates of merit and achievements awarded by the school: “2014 was a “bumper harvest” year for me personally. In a year in which I received a certificate of merit from the Principal, was recognized as an emulation fighter, a typical young face at the grassroots level and, happiest of all, I was admitted to the Communist Party of Vietnam.”.

In early spring 2015, Master Pham Van Hue also sent best wishes to all staff, lecturers and students in the school. At the same time, he hoped for a new year with many successes: “Our ancestors always said that if you have health, you have everything. I also wish everyone good health. Students get good scores in exams and actively participate in scientific research. If you study well, our school will have many bright and successful hopes.”..

Student Mai Mai (K56 International Studies) and her memorable trip to Singapore

Mai Mai is one of five students from the University of Social Sciences and Humanities participating in "ASEAN Youth Role Model Workshop” in 2014 was held at Singapore Polytechnic University (Singapore). Coming to the conference, the girl with this special name was “played” the role of the head of state, together with students from other countries in the Southeast Asian region to solve the hottest issues happening in the region - an honor that not every Vietnamese student has.

When Mai Mai went abroad, she also carried the image of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities in her heart. She sincerely confided: “Always keep in mind that going to Singapore is not as a “Mai Mai” anymore but as a student of USSH, a Vietnamese student. I am always proud to be a student of USSH.”.

The image of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities is subtly promoted by Mai Mai: “When participating in such a large-scale ASEAN event, students mainly remember each other's country names. When introducing myself, although I know that the name of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities is quite long when translated into English, I always say the full name of the school correctly to other foreign students. Not only that, I also wear the school's badge, have objects with the school's image, etc. so that I can point to them and say that this is my school, or give them to students from other countries. To make the image of my homeland Vietnam, the image of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities bright in everyone's mind.”.

Mai Mai also made a rather witty comparison between Singapore Polytechnic University and USSH: “The scale of this school is much larger than our school. However, the disadvantage is that the school is too big so students do not know each other well. Some students said that even if they come to school early, they can still be late because the distance from the school gate to the classroom is still very far. So we can see that our small school still has its advantages.”.

Conclusion

Four perspectives from four individuals are four different impressions of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities in 2014. There are many staff, lecturers and students of the school, they also have their own impressions of the school. They are devoted to the school and realize that this school has become an indispensable part. A new spring has come, a year with many great anniversaries of the nation and most especially the 70th anniversary of the founding of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, the 20th anniversary of the school's tradition. Staff, lecturers and students are looking forward to that great holiday and looking forward to 2015 with more unforgettable memories.
