The first content of the working session is about the plan to organize the 9th International Conference on Korean Studies, scheduled for September 2020 at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities. The conference aims to strengthen cooperation between core member units of KoSASA, through exchanging and deepening new directions to promote Korean studies in Southeast Asia in the coming time. The presentations will focus on important and urgent issues with the current Korean economy, society, and culture from a Southeast Asian perspective.
Next, Prof. Kwon Geong Ho, on behalf of the University of New South Wales, invited the University's staff and lecturers to participate in a special regional workshop organized by the Institute of Korean Studies, University of New South Wales in December 2019. The workshop was themed "State capacity for national development in ASEAN transition economies and the role of Korea". The aim was to identify the challenges facing ASEAN transition economies, compare them with the reality of Korea to find lessons learned. The workshop is expected to contribute to enhancing cooperation between Korea and ASEAN countries.
On behalf of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Prof. Dr. Pham Quang Minh highly appreciated the goodwill of Prof. Kwon Geong Ho and KoSASA. First of all, as the 9th President of KoSASA, the Rector pledged to make every effort to ensure the success of the 9th conference of the Association. At the same time, the Rector will send invitations to write articles to lecturers and researchers of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU who are interested in the two conferences mentioned above.
KoSASA is an academic organization/forum established in 2004 at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU-HCM in cooperation with the University of New South Wales, Australia and the Korea Foundation. KoSASA is responsible for supporting and promoting research, teaching Korean studies and applying Korean studies knowledge in Southeast Asian countries. KoSASA organizes a conference every two years to summarize and evaluate the activities of its partner member schools over the past two years, and at the same time implement or propose to implement new cooperation projects. In Vietnam, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU-HCM and the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU-Hanoi are two active partners of KoSASA, hosting the KoSASA founding conference in 2005 in Ho Chi Minh City and the regular conference in 2012 in Hanoi.
