Implementing cooperation with Chosun University (Korea)

On July 28, 2014, a delegation led by Dr. Park Hai-Chun (Vice President of Chosun University, Korea) visited and worked at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities. Receiving the delegation were Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Van Kim (Vice President) and representatives of the Faculty of Oriental Studies, Department of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.

At the meeting, Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Van Kim briefly introduced the history of training and research of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities as a leading place for training social sciences and humanities in Vietnam. The University currently has 13,000 students of all levels, over 700 lecturers and civil servants, 14 state-level research projects each year and international relations with over 200 universities worldwide. The University will celebrate its 70th anniversary in 2015. Based on the previously signed Memorandum of Understanding, he proposed the implementation of cooperation between the University of Social Sciences and Humanities and Chosun University.

Dr. Park Hai-Chun said he was very pleased to be warmly welcomed by the University of Social Sciences and Humanities and wished to promote more specific and detailed cooperation in areas such as student and lecturer exchanges as well as organizing scientific conferences. He said the Korean government is increasingly paying attention to the Southeast Asian region in general and Vietnam in particular.

Thereby, Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Van Kim happily suggested some directions for cooperation such as: organizing joint research topics and scientific seminars on issues such as Vietnam - Korea multicultural family relations, Vietnam - Korea labor exchange, Korean cultural wave in Vietnam, Korean investment in Vietnam... In particular, he proposed to organize a scientific seminar with the expected theme of "The role of education in the cause of industrialization and modernization of Vietnam - Korea" to exchange educational experiences between the two countries. In addition, he wished to establish a Vietnam Studies Research Center at Chosun University and expand cooperation in 2+2, 1+3 training programs between the two sides with the focal point of cooperation being the Department of Korean Studies, Faculty of Oriental Studies, University of Social Sciences and Humanities.

Chosun University was founded in December 1946 in Gwangju city, South Korea, 400km from Seoul. With an area of ​​nearly 2 million m​2Comprising 32 buildings, Chosun University is one of the largest universities in Korea. It consists of 14 colleges, 7 affiliated institutes, 5 independent departments, 76 majors, and 10 graduate schools. It has 1,500 faculty members and 23,000 students.
