Promoting cooperation with Western Sydney University (Australia)

At the meeting, Associate Professor Dr. Pham Quang Minh briefly introduced the history of training and research of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities as a leading place for training in social sciences and humanities in Vietnam. He proposed the implementation of cooperation between the University and Western Sydney University by suggesting some directions of activities between the two schools such as implementing joint research topics, organizing international scientific conferences, exchanging lecturers and publishing typical research of both sides.

Dr. Ien Ang welcomed the proposal of Associate Professor Dr. Pham Quang Minh and said that Western Sydney University is very eager to cooperate with USSH. In particular, she proposed to organize an international conference on “Local and Global Change in Urban Vietnam: Towards Engaged Research” (tentative) organized by USSH and the Institute of Culture and Society, Western Sydney University in late March 2015. The conference aims to study local and global social change trends in Vietnam, starting in urban areas such as Hanoi.

Associate Professor Dr. Pham Quang Minh completely agreed with the above idea and proposed that the two sides sign a memorandum of understanding to promote cooperation, thereby aiming to establish potential for joint research in the future.

Western Sydney University is a system of 6 campuses located in the west of Sydney - Great Western Sydney, the 3rd commercial and economic center of Australia. This place is famous for its fast and strong economic development, of the top 500 companies in Australia, 150 companies are located in Great-Western Sydney.
