Through two films "Poet from the Sea" (produced in 1927) scripted and directed by Hou Yao and "A String of Pearls" (produced in 1926) scripted by Hou Yao, Associate Professor Zheng Zhang showed important discoveries about Hou Yao's early filmmaking methods and the rise of the romantic film genre in Shanghai cinema in the 1920s. Previously, Associate Professor Zheng Zhang also had a number of exchanges with students of the film project on the history of Chinese cinema. Associate Professor. Zheng Zhang is a researcher and lecturer in film history and historiography, early cinema, popular culture and modernity, gender and media, cinema and urban culture, cosmopolitanism, Chinese-language films (including documentaries and video), Asian and East Asian cinema studies.
