Celebrating Professor Dinh Xuan Lam's 90th birthday

This morning, May 4, 2015, Prof. Dr. People's Teacher Nguyen Van Khanh, Party Committee Secretary and Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities (VNU), led a delegation of staff and lecturers from the University to visit and congratulate Prof. People's Teacher Dinh Xuan Lam on his 90th birthday.

Also coming to congratulate Professor Dinh Xuan Lam on his birthday were colleagues, friends, and generations of students who studied and worked with him over the years, such as Professor Phan Huy Le (Chairman of the Vietnam Historical Science Association), Professor Vu Duong Ninh (Chairman of the School's Former Teachers' Association), Associate Professor Dr. Vu Van Quan (Head of the History Department), along with department staff and lecturers of the History Department, University of Social Sciences and Humanities.

. Prof. Dr. Vu Duong Ninh, representative of the School's former teachers, respectfully presented an embroidery to celebrate the 90th birthday of Prof. Dr. Dinh Xuan Lam.

This is an activity to show gratitude to the successive generations, to recognize the Professor's contributions to Vietnamese revolutionary history in general, to the former General University (now the University of Social Sciences and Humanities), the Faculty of History and the Department of Modern History in particular.

Professor Dinh Xuan Lam was born on February 4, 1925 in Son Tan commune, Huong Son district, Ha Tinh province, into a family of patriotic officials. He was born in the land of "spiritual land and talented people", where the divine physician Hai Thuong Lan Ong cured people, where the former doctor Phan Dinh Phung and the farmer leader Cao Thang established the Can Vuong base to fight against the French colonialists for ten years.

During more than half a century of tireless research, Professor Dinh Xuan Lam has left behind a huge scientific legacy, with about 400 scientific works (including books, textbooks, articles, scientific reports, etc.). Typical books associated with the Professor's name include: the book seriesModern History of Vietnam(4 episodes),Overview of Vietnamese history(volume 2), bookHistory of Vietnamwhich you are the editor-in-chief (episode 3)...

In the field of teaching, Professor Dinh Xuan Lam has trained thousands of students and successfully guided dozens of PhDs. Generations guided by the Professor always show their love, respect, and honor the Professor as one of the "four pillars of the court" of the Faculty of History, University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU. The Professor belongs to the generation of those who built the foundation and are the leading experts of the country's Marxist historiography.

Prof. Dr. People's Teacher Nguyen Van Khanh, representing the University, sent his gratitude to the Professor for his contributions to the University, the Faculty and the Department over the years. On this occasion, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Khanh also sent his best wishes to Prof. People's Teacher Dinh Xuan Lam, wishing him good health, happiness and longevity.

On this occasion, Prof. Dr. People's Teacher Nguyen Van Khanh also represented the School and the Faculty of History to present the Professor with a book.“Anti-colonialism Movement in Vietnam”. The book is a scientific publication that not only crystallizes the excellent research of Professor, People's Teacher Dinh Xuan Lam but also suggests and orients future research, especially for today's youth, about a complex, volatile but pivotal and especially important period of Vietnamese history. The book is published by the School in conjunction with the Education Publishing House.

Prof. Dr. People's Teacher Nguyen Van Khanh, Party Secretary and Principal of the School, is introducing the book respectfully presented to Prof. Dr. People's Teacher Dinh Xuan Lam.

The pages of the book partly reflect the dedication of the generation of the professor's students in particular, the Department of Modern and Contemporary Studies, the Faculty of History, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities in general, and the elite intellectual staff that he has spent many years teaching, cultivating and nurturing. At the same time, there is also deep respect and gratitude, Prof. Dr. Do Quang Hung shared.

On behalf of the staff, lecturers and students, Associate Professor, Dr. Vu Van Quan (Head of the History Department) also sent his best wishes to the teacher, hoping that he would live long so that he could continue to contribute to training and scientific research activities and continue to be an example and guide the younger generations of the History Department.
